SHOULD YOU DEFER YOUR CHILD'S FIRST DENTAL VISIT UNTILL HE NEEDS DENTAL ATTENTION

No. The child should go to the dentist for the first time preferably not as a toothache patient.
The first appointment should be free from pain and discomfort, so that the child will learn to know the dentist as a friend.
According to the recent American guidelines for Paediatric Dentistry, it is recommended that parents bring their children to the dentist soon after the first tooth appears (around 6 months) or at least before their first birthday.
This is important as early dentist visits help adults learn how to care for their child’s teeth and gums, how to help their children care for their own teeth, answer parent’s questions and concerns, and in planning for the future dental health of the child.
